We would like to extend our thanks to John Katko, president
and founder of Friends of Wetlands and a member
of the Ohio Environmental Council Board of directors,
for his
very informative and interesting power point presentation of Amphibians
of Vernal Pools given at our last meeting on Saturday, February 21st.
Armed with colorful pictures of local frog’s
species and their eggs as well as audio of their very distinct mating calls he
explained their life cycles and their importance to the natural order of our
local habitats. He also educated us on
the vital roll the Salamander plays in our ecology. He showed us a number of
different local
species including the spotted salamander which is ians to the health of our community.
